WARM-UP CHIT-CHAT
I was chatting with Dean Baskerville my new producer and master sound engineer about such real opera things before we got started one day. Musicians need a bit of warm up chit chat: its not a car wash, its creating. This song had several big changes, I said “what’s another word for that in opera?” He said “fugue maybe”. As I looked that up if was one word that summed up the whole opera. How we all forgot who we were, the many changes of styles, and how this opera will return us all to our true state as American spirits all living the American dream. Warm up chit-chat, before getting to the music making, can really payoff some times.
THIS IS NOT TEXAS RADIO AND I’M NOT STONED IMMACULATE
I’m not sure what Texas Radio is, but I’m sure I’ll find out now. That line and the stoned immaculate was the opposite of what Jim Morrison, of the famous rock band The Doors, sang. Along with a bunch of drug induced lyrics that made for a bizarre song. While I loved the Doors I was mocking Jim Morrison. Whatever he was saying I was saying the opposite. Go find his old stuff for a hoot. His lyrics don’t mean much because he was stoned immaculate, but he had ‘it’.

PICK THE TIMING OF YOUR FIGHTS
Music producers have a ton of experience. I got so much done so quickly because as long as I got 75% of what I wanted, I didn’t fight them on the details. But I’d come back to about 15% of what they ‘didn’t like’ and took out. Sometimes, a month later, sometimes a year. Get them in a different mood and the response was different, “Oh, that would be cool”. So it was with this song as well as with Belly of the Beast ending. But Dean did talk me into cutting the volume of words down to almost half: then he perked up and said “this can be a great song!” He was right; it made the song better.

Epic. I was going somewhere epic! Doing something nobody had done before, in this whole ‘opera’. Mix the 2nd greatest story ever told (The American Dream) in a mind numbing 100 songs, with a real peoples movement. My producer, sound engineer and I are still battling about leaving website references in many of the songs. Most will stay in because I really want to make this happen. I want a universal, peaceful, overnight action to occur for 300 Million American spirits almost at once, over maybe 12-36 months, to restore everyone’s American spirit and American dream.

That was the original song title. I envisioned it more as spoken news broadcast with cool music, rather than the three songs in one it became. But in production, Tim Ellis wasn’t comfortable doing the same vibe for 6 minutes, like some Bob Dylan songs that tell a story do, and work fine. So he grabbed a Polka vibe I had done in an early draft and put it back in on the fly. See warm up chit chat below to see how the song name changed.

12 months later Tim passed away. Six months after that Dean who’d lost his wife to cancer also, was ready to get back to this project. Six months later we were both in better spirits and were ‘creating’ again. Michele Van Kleefe who does amazing background vocals throughout this opera, and had sung real opera, and was schooling me real opera terms like an ‘aside’. Which I’d been doing naturally. That’s when the singer speaks directly to the audience out of character to tell them what’s happening.

A Fugue is a great forgetting of truths. In societies they commonly benefit all equally, which when forgotten, or buried by dastardly characters who control the news, end up casting the world’s people into centuries of dark ages (lack of truth and knowledge) and suffering.

So when I look back on the BIG Fugues above, all the massive forgetting of all time, which keep placing, throwing, the whole world back into literal dark ages and all the people of the world back to an animalistic Master-Slave way of doing business, I retch at all the eons of human suffering. And today in 2010 with all media controlled by six mega companies, my friends, we are entering the next dark ages if we don’t act 300 million as 1.
But why don’t we? I mean, why haven’t we? As humans we unfortunately scare easily. Unfortunately, 90% of us seem to just let bullies take more then they deserve and just ‘turn the other cheek’, until they’ve taken 90% of all the goodies! Where we are at today. And unfortunately there never seems to be anyone with a plan to solve this recurring human foible: forgetting. Forgetting the citizen’s needs. Forgetting the American dream of Equality. Forgetting that $26 Trillion in national debt is a $66,000 per person TAX. And forgetting that America was started revolting against a Tea Tax that is nothing compared to $66,000 per person today!!!
Or more aptly, as many of these song bonus materials and Podcasts point out, it’s not really forgetting. People who crave control and power (they never have enough=sociopaths) over the masses to control all resources just pile on AMAZING AMOUNTS OF GARBAGE INFORMATION on us all constantly glorifying themselves, demonizing any others, even people who thought they were the emperor’s ‘friend’, and taking out all real information over a generation so that the new generation just starting to tune in…never knew it existed. Gasp is right!
So what happens when the BULLIES of humanity do this? Let’s walk down Bully Memory Lane for a moment. Well there was a guy named Hitler who was responsible for 40 million deaths who came to power after the country was economically in ruins. There was a guy named Stalin who was responsible for 20 million deaths who came to power under another highly centralized power state. When we are lulled into forgetting by real information not being actively in front of us, the bullies take all the resources of a nation and put them into war. Then the economy fails. That’s where America is today. Gasp is right! It feels like 1938 on any given day. Then the scarred and economically ruined people seek strong leadership. Then some new bully comes along with promises that ends up WORSE than the last bully they replace. See Castro in Cuba.
So what do all us scaredy cats, all 300 million of us ordinary citizens including myself do daily anyway? We work if we have a job. 100 million are in poverty in America today and trying to pay bills, have a roof and feed themselves: 44 million are on food stamps. Another 44 million people aged 20-40 have amassed $1.5 Trillion in student debt ($25,000 - $100,000 per person, 70% of these loans are in default unable to pay) for knowledge that could be somewhat useless in an American digital economy that is presently 70% retail, where 50% of all jobs are minimum wage, and 20 million to 30 million MORE jobs WILL BE LOST to advanced technologies over the next 20 years. ALL US SCAREDY CATS ARE BUSY TRYING TO SURVIVE.
20-40 year olds today are trying to not live with Mom and Dad, and find a way to live with ruined credit because they can’t pay their student loans. Seniors are trying to have a good time before they get ill, or sicker, or can’t pay for their medications because drug companies run the government and make things like insulin which was ‘given’ to the work now cost hundreds of dollars a month when it should be pennies.
While all us scaredy cats kept busy trying to survive and ignoring BS fake news, the wealth class and deep state distributed together, who control out government through money in politics, which the Supreme Court just legalized in 2010, they have been quietly PRIVATIZING EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO SURVIVE. You see they don’t want you dead at all. They want you working and buying as they take every cent out of your pockets your whole life. WAKE UP! Life is not supposed to be this way. Some counties make capturing rain water a crime.

WHAT IS A FUGUE?
The definition I put on the Today’s the Day album page says it’s a dissociative state that can last for weeks or years. When someone forgets who they are, and acts different. And when they wake up they don’t remember who they were during the Fugue. To me that exactly describes who we are as the American people. I’ve explained in Dreaming of Us how American re-invented most of the modern world. In the song The Greatest Show on Earth, I explained how tough the American people are winning all major conflicts and how for 200 years the world watched in awe after we had revolution after revolution brining our world into the future. In Fight for Your Future, I questioned how a people this smart, this bright, could be this stupid for the last 50 years as we went from a creditor nation and the most powerful on earth to teetering from one bankrupting event to the next barely avoiding total collapse.
WHO CAUSED IT?
That last 50-year period, from 1978, five years after the Louis Powell memo to rally corporate American to change all school curriculums and overthrow the government with money in politics, is our Fugue. Corporate America, or more accurately, the elite global wealth class, was so successful, we became ALL sheep. We ate the nutrient deficient grass they fed as news information. Even though it had DDT (pesticides, or in this case Dumbing Down Talk) in it that slowly eroded ALL our minds. When we don’t have the truth, when we don’t have facts, we go into an “Ignorance is bliss” state of being that we didn’t ask for. That caused the Fugue. Our brains became jello, mush, unable to reason without real facts. Unable to challenge false policy when we only found out 5-10 years after the fact they were full of crap, and they knew that, but we the people didn’t. And their well paid off henchmen, the news agencies bought by corporations, and the economists, the watchdogs of democracy, all kept silent. No dogs barked as I say in the later song Save Our Factory of Dreams.
VERY NICE CLAIMS ADRIAN, BUT GIVE ME REAL HARD EXAMPLES!
I’ll start with three today. I could write another book on how the corporate wealth class elite dismantled our democracy and economy causing the epic 40-year fugue of the American people. We forgot who we were, citizens actively participating in our government by using our voices, by being fed endless fake news and as the Corporama put the economy put in a near constant state of crashing (by endlessly sucking the money out quadrupling a fake defense budget and corporate corruption in government) that kept 300 million ordinary citizens too busy just trying to survive, pay bills. They made us all poor, and the poor as you know, have NO voice in America and NONE at all in American policy or politics. Oh and by the way, the elite corporate wealth class was so successful, we have 100 million Poor and 100 million almost there. That’s 2/3 of All Americans poor or just about it. Now that you’re warmed up to hear real examples and real facts, here they are:
ONE: THE WAR MACHINE, Making War ‘Routine’ Business
How about the government stopped showing American soldiers caskets being taken off aircraft landing home on the news? They dehumanized us. Like trees falling in the woods, if no one hears, did they really fall? They ‘imbedded’ reporters in units in the Television War, the Gulf War, who failed to show 100,000 or more Iraqis killed in 72 hours. American casualties were 382. It was like an adult fighting a sixth grader. All to romanticize and dehumanize killing and war: the main business of the new United States. Reporters were not allowed to freely report. Like all news since 1987, it was manipulated.
TWO: NEWS MEDIA REPORTERS, Taking the Facts Out of All ‘News’
How about 1987 when President Reagan was implementing the Powell memo, had the Federal Communications rescind a 1949 Fairness Doctrine in broadcasting. Making it now ‘unfair’ to the American people going forward. The Fairness in news Doctrine required anyone with a broadcast license to present controversial issues in a way that was honest, equitable and balanced. The Fairness Doctrine Reagan removed had required broadcaster to show contrasting view to inform the public, versus brainwashing and duping it! After that we got hate radio by both crazed political parties.

We got Television news turned into what resembled Game Shows like Hollywood Squares. “Let’s go to the panelists”. Did anyone forget all these celebrity game shows of the 1950’s and 1960’s like “What’s My Line? Jeopardy anyone? This is why Sting commented in one of his famous songs that politicians all look like game show hosts: they do. So one of the two big watchdog of our democracy, new reporting, became fake news reporting. About 60 million people became addicted, 30 million who think they’re republican, and 30 million who think they are democrats.
The rest of us Jeffersonians, we want government to work and be out of our lives not screaming garbage on the TV every night, tuned out. So thank you President Reagan! You F-uped the whole American spirit to steal the American economy while we all tuned out an argued for the next 30 years. The ultimate mocking of the removal of the Fairness Doctrine? It was done by President Nixon’s newsman Roger Ailes who created Fox News. Fair and Balanced was the slogan of Fox News. They replaced the real Fairness Doctrine we all had which made news shows be responsible, with…themselves. Brilliant, just brilliant. They killed the real fair news then called themselves that. Now we are $25 Trillion in debt borrowing $6 billion a day as they didn’t report the loss of THE WHOLE AMERICAN ECONOMY. Are you F-ing kidding me????
THREE: ECONOMISTS, Taking the ‘Numbers’ out of the Economy
Does anyone remember “Voodoo Economics”? Called that by Bush #1. He said it goes by the name of Supply Side Economics pushed by Wall St. and by his predecessor Reagan as “Reaganomics”. So Bush #1 actually violated his own campaign promise of NO NEW TAXES because he knew America would collapse at some point just accumulating debt. That was nice. It would have been nicer if he made the billionaires and Wall St. pay higher taxes for the criminal imbalance between national debt and American productive capacity they were increasing! Any banker, and any 7 year old at the corner market trying to buy what is now a $3 pack of bubble gum, if you don’t have $3 now, you can’t buy it. Unless…you lie about the future. Unless you hide and change all the numbers. Unless you fire anyone in government that says your lying about how all the numbers add up. Two examples of such truthtellers taken to the woodshed or fired. Back to old President Reagan, his director of management and budget 1981-1985, a guy named DAVID STOCKMAN.
David Stockman was called the father of supply side economics. That means trickle down; that lie. Meaning if you give the wealthy all the money and lower their taxes, they can create more jobs and end our ‘welfare state’. STOP. Can you even believe this BS? Instead of giving 300 million Americans skills training for a new economy, they cut programs for we the people to give money to the Billionaires and Corporate America? Stockmans career really ended when he was quoted in a 18,246 word article in the Atlantic Monthly in its December 1981 issue titled “The Education of David Stockman”. In it he admitted to such things as Reagan’s 1981 was always a Trojan Horse to bring down the top tax rate. Of the budget process during his first year on the job, Stockman was quoted as saying, “None of us really understands what’s going on with all these numbers.” Reagan famously “took him to the woodshed” and he resigned. Poor David. Where did he go? Back to Wall St., Solomon Brothers, then the Blackstone Group. So all these people who can’t add for the American people come from where? Main St.? NO. Wall St. Wall St. domination of America’s policy and treasury needs to end. But in this example, it wasn’t exactly Stockman doing it, he was directed by Reagan. Who prior to being president worked for a small company named GENERAL ELECTRIC, which at the time was one of the biggest companies in the world, and he toured the country for them speaking to corporate America. He wasn’t the Hollywood President, he was the General Electric President! A tool of the global wealth class elite I am talking about.

Let me put that REAGAN ear TURNING POINT in Numbers perspective for us all. When he took over for President Carter, the annual budget deficit was only $79 Billion, the national debt of $907 Billion, just under 1, yes I said 1, TRILLION. This was the beginning of REAL RUNAWAY GOVERNMENT spending us all into bankruptcy, chaos and collapse. Today our national debt is $25 TRILLION!!!! In 37 years our national debt increased by $24 TRILLION.
If that’s not juicy enough, let’s go on to the globalization mumbo-jumbo. Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize (a gift from the Corporama, Nobel invented dynamite, armaments, the global wealth class elite) read some of his books. He admits he did stuff and said stuff he knew wouldn’t work. He feels bad, as most economists did who didn’t scream outrage at false economic reality, and saw America, their America, our America, wilt and crumble. Globalization a good idea? For God sakes how in the world could somebody in America making $8.50 an hour compete with somebody offshore making 85 cents an hour, or day? How they sold America on globalization as a good thing had to take all the numbers out of the equation.
Even though its 11 PM on a Sunday night and I need to go to bed to have a good Podcast, let me give you one more brief example of economists gone bad, which I cover in depth in Album 2 “Petty Theft and Grand Larceny” song. Alan Greenspan. He preached “Markets can regulate themselves”. Brilliant just brilliant Allan. It’s like saying criminals can police themselves. Regulators came into being because Wall St. kept collapsing the economy. DOES ANYONE READ HISTORY??? I am not the best historian. But I see trends, as I was trained to over 35 years. And they have all been bad in economics. They all wanted Wall St. money so they all shut up and went along with Deregulation and Globalization when THEY KNEW it would end BADLY for ALL the American people. Thanks a lot brave American greedy economists. I’ve spoken to retail workers who didn’t go to college that can add and understand what you’ve done. You may want to move overseas, 300 million people might be mad at you guys when they all find out the facts of what you did, and didn’t do. I urge everyone to get real facts, then decide. Read a lot of sources. Bottom line? All the economists sold out the American people. They are owned lock stock and barrel by Wall St.

I want real Democracy, not a rich mans charade

Since our Revolution, I want to transform our 60 year war economy
To a true bubble up economy, to make America everything
It was supposed to be for every single family
I want a true government of the people
Without the influence of money in politics

And its time we all got together and ended it

A small business revolution
Let’s make China look like its in the Stone Age again
We are so blind, small business started
Every major global industry we covet today
The only way Forward, is Innovation
That is the only environment we can thrive in
That’s how we survive man, it is the way forward
But all our leaders do is cater to dying industries
They keep bleeding us to bail them all out
And send them overseas
Their losses wind up in our national debt
So I ask, “Who are the crazy ones?”

Or moving America Forward
